Revealed - The 5 Most Popular Dieting Myths Exposed, How Guilty Are You?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

1. Skipping a meal to lose weight

Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can make you feel tired and hungry and more likely to reach for high-fat, high-calorie snacks because in times of stress (and missing a meal is stressing your body) you are hardwired by evolution to search for sugar, salt and fat. In fact, people who eat breakfast are more likely to maintain a healthy weight than those who don't.

2. Restricting types of food

If you eat nothing but celery all day long for a week you will, of course, lose weight and probably turn green in the process. However, diets that drastically cut calories will quickly become boring because you are hardwired to seek variety and so won't be effective in the long run. It's not necessary to starve to lose weight; making small changes to your lifestyle that you can stick to for the long-term is the key to success.

3. No goodies

Depriving yourself of all the foods that you enjoy won't work. You'll eventually give in and abandon your efforts, the reason for this is very simple... what you resist persists. Try not thinking of your favourite snack right now, no seriously don't think of it.See what I mean, you resisted and it persisted, now imagine trying to do that all day every day there's no harm in having a treat now and again as long as it is not your staple diet.

4. No eating after 6pm

It really doesn't matter when you eat if you are eating over and above the recommended calorific intake. A calorie is a calorie no matter what time of the day! It's a lot healthier for your digestive system not to eat a big meal before you go to bed, as it should be in the rest and repair mode, but a late dinner will not make you any fatter than an early one. As a matter of fact it is quite possible the body will try to "make up" the shortfall the next day, so you will have defeated the purpose of restricting yourself.

5. Losing fat from certain areas

Unfair as it may seem, you can't pick and choose where you gain or lose weight, wouldn't it be great if you could though? When you lose fat, it is lost throughout the entire body. Zoning in on one area of the body when you exercise will develop better muscle tone in that area but it won't remove fat... Sorry, why am I saying sorry it's not my fault... blame evolution.

Look over this list again and use it for your weight loss goals, research and find out what will work for you... and then do it, not next week not when you feel the time is right, today and every day until you get what you want.

Are you still here? I can't believe you are still reading... go and get on with it.
