Habits of a Weight-Healthy Lifestyle

The fact remains that for any diet to work a person needs to change how they approach food. By this it is meant, how is food consumed? How is food prepared? For a diet to really work, a person needs to change how they cook their food, how they eat their food, and how they use their food. Many people have unhealthy eating habits so they have gained weight. They need to change their eating habits to lose weight and to keep it off.

Learning to change the eating habits is only half of the dieting system. The other half is implementing exercise. Yet this article is about the right diet of foods for extended weight loss. So keep in mind this is only the first half of the weight loss solution.

There are foods that need to be removed from the diet in order to lose weight and to maintain a healthy weight. The food that fried should be avoided as much as possible, the added fats in the food are stored in the body and turned to fat when you do not burn the additives.

Eating foods high in protein such as whey, lean beef, chicken, tuna, turkey, salmon, and eggs help with weight loss when added to the diet. The fatty acids in the fish are beneficial for a healthy diet including stronger bones, teeth, nails, and hair.

Remove dairy products that are high in fat content. Try to replace the fattening foods with a low fat dairy product to limit the consumption of the fat in the dairy products. This also includes limiting the intake of the high fat snacks, which add pounds and inches.

Add essential fatty acids foods that include nuts, seeds, and flax oil to your diet. They are great sources of the essential fatty acids that are needed by the body to function properly. Eat the nuts and seeds as a snack instead of the chips or other unhealthy snacks.

Add water to your diet. You should consume at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. The water helps to hydrate the body and to flush out harmful toxins. Water will also help to make you feel fuller and eat less too.

Add a good quality multi-vitamin to your daily diet. The vitamins will help your body with the essential nutrients your normal diet does not contain.

Changing your eating habits to a healthier diet will help you lose weight and maintain the desired weight you want to have.

Fast Weight Loss for a Busy Lifestyle

Fast weight loss is often about 'fad diets', which often leave you feeling unsatisfied and therefore you stop the program.

Would you like to have long term success with your weight loss and have a happily ever after? It's time to take a look at alternative all natural weight loss that promotes a healthy lifestyle change for a permanent healthy weight.

Leucine is an amino acid that lets you keep your muscle mass while losing the fat you don't want. Soy Protein reduce cravings by keeping your blood sugar levels regulated. If your body is getting enough nutrients it won't crave what it doesn't need. Most weight loss programs you lose fat and also muscle which affects your metabolism. We all know having a good metabolism is critical, as this is your ability to burn calories.

Instead of being on a yo-yo diet where you lose weight but then gain it all back again as well as more, try taking a look at an alternative that can really make a difference for long term health benefits. Check out meal replacement smoothies, protein bars, energizing green teas, meal replacement bars and nutrients to ensure you are receiving everything your body requires to set yourself up for success.

Take a good look at your diet, incorporate 2 healthy meals per day along with meal replacement shakes and snack bars, and watch your energy levels climb! You are never hungry. Add daily exercise by finding something you really enjoy and a buddy to join you. You will be pleasantly surprised by the results you will receive.

Having a 'buddy' to do a weight loss program and exercise routine with you is critical for your success. It's human nature to want to gravitate toward 'connection' and when you spend time with others that are like-minded and going through the same challenges as you, you feel that connection. You have a support system in place when times get tough and you are tempted to go back to what you know to be 'comfortable'.

Set yourself up for success by covering all the bases and therefore reducing temptation. Challenge your 'buddy' to be accountable to you and you to them on a weekly basis through sharing weekly goals. Share how many inches or pounds you have lost, what you ate, what struggles you experienced. Perhaps try a payment and reward system where if you don't reach your weekly goal you have to pay your buddy $5 and when you reach your goal you earn a date out. Make losing weight pleasurable and not losing weight painful.

When you have reached your desired weight, then reduce down to 1 meal replacement per day along with 2 other healthy meals. By keeping up the exercise routine and healthy eating you have made a habit of these 2 very critical ingredients for a permanent healthy and adequate weight. It's a journey, enjoy the trip!

Congratulations you are on the road to reaching your weight goal and having a healthier lifestyle just by reading this!

4 Components of a Healthy Lifestyle

The four basic components of optimal health are outlined below.

1. MOVE WELL

Our bodies have an amazing ability to protect us from injury by making changes to our movement patterns. Take something as basic as spraining your ankle. We've all done it, but what happens right after? You limp. That's your body's way of limiting movement sure you don't injure it further. That is a helpful adjustment to make for the short term, but when we have a chronic nagging ailment like low back pain, shoulder pain or knee trouble, we often develop new "protective" movement patterns that are much more ingrained. That's why it's important to have a health professional screen your movement patterns before you start an exercise program.

I start all my clients off with a Functional Movement Screen (an assessment used by most professional sports teams, the military, fire and police personnel). I do this so I can identify and address:

limitationsasymmetriescompensations

... all of which can wear down your body and lead to pain and injury.

2. MOVE OFTEN

Adopt a regular exercise program to get all the benefits that go along with exercising regularly, such as:

improved strength and staminahigher levels of energyimproved immune systemreduced risk of many diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and many forms of cancer

Not everyone needs to see a trainer 3 times per week, but if you spend most of your time sitting down all day, you definitely need to offset those hours of inactivity by taking part in some type of exercise activity or program.

3. EAT WELL

You already know this, I don't need to tell you how important it is to eat a diet with many vegetables, fiber, and lean protein. But do you know what foods are best for your body type and your goals? Instead of counting calories and measuring the number of carbs you eat each meal, try following a few basic principles that are easy to adopt. Fad diets aren't the answer here - they leave you feeling deprived and won't serve as a good long term solution. Learn the effects different foods have on your body. Eating the right foods at the right times can not only optimize your metabolism and hormonal response, it can also leave you feeling satisfied and full! Try adopting these principles, one at a time. Pick the easiest one first, once it's a habit, move on to the next easiest.

Eat every 2 - 4 hoursEat a serving or 2 of lean protein with every mealEat at least 2 servings of vegetables at every mealLimit carbohydrates to post workout mealsBalance your fat intake (saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated)

4. EAT OFTEN

Starving yourself actually slows down your metabolism and causes you to store more fat. Eating the RIGHT FOODS in the RIGHT QUANTITY at RIGHT TIMES can actually speed up your metabolism, reduce the amount of fat your body stores, and can increase the amount of fuel that goes to build calorie burning muscles.

This may have been a review for many of you, but now it's time to put it into practice! Here's to a healthy 2013!

Weight Loss Tips For Your Busy Lifestyle

Weight loss is a goal that many people have. Weight loss does take time and effort, though, and many busy people think it is not possible to lose weight if they lead a lifestyle that is full of activity. Luckily, anyone who is busy and has the desire to lose weight can take the necessary actions and get rid of the extra pounds that they are carrying. The following tips will help you shed weight when you are living a busy lifestyle.

First of all, you need to look at your diet. Many busy people tend to eat a lot of convenience foods. Unfortunately, a lot of these types of foods are unhealthy. You can find some healthy options, but you do have to look for them. Fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, low-fat dairy products, lean meats and whole grains are all good food options. Avoid foods that are fried, full of fat and sugar or overly processed. These foods will not help in your weight loss goal.

If you need convenience, you can plan your meals and the foods you eat. There are many ways you can do this, and you will just have to find what works for you.

1. Freezer meals. On weekends you can cook up healthy meals for the week or the month that you can stick in the freezer. This way, you can have dinner, lunches or even breakfast ready whenever you need it.

2. Keep healthy snacks around. You are more likely to eat something healthy if it is there and waiting for you. When you are on the go, pack a bag full of healthy snacks and foods so you do not have to eat unhealthy fast food or other convenience foods.

3. Pack your lunch. Bring a healthy lunch with you to work, the ball field or wherever you are going. This can also help you refrain from picking unhealthy options.

Exercise is also important when you want to lose weight. In order to fit exercise into a busy lifestyle, you must make it a priority. Schedule your exercise like you would any other event in your life and do not cancel.

There are two types of exercise you should take part in on a regular basis.

1. Cardiovascular exercise. Cardio is any exercise that gets your heart pumping and keeps your heart rate elevated. This type of exercise is beneficial in helping you burn fat and helps your heart and lungs. There are many cardiovascular exercise options. You can take a walk, jog, run or ride your bike. Join a dance class or find an aerobic class at a local gym. There is a lot of exercise equipment, too, that you can use and get your cardio in on. You should aim to do at least half an hour of cardio exercise most days of the week.

2. Strength Training. Strength training is any exercise that helps build your muscles. Even if you do not want huge muscles, this type of exercise is still important. Muscles are used in each and every thing your body does and having your muscles strengthened will help in everything. As an added bonus, the more muscle mass you have, the more calories your body burns on a regular basis. That means that even when you are sleeping, your body is burning calories. Try to do strength training exercises a few times a week.

Losing weight can be done when you are busy. It takes a little more planning and some creativity, but you can do it.

Say NO to a "Diet" New Year's Resolution and YES to Lifestyle Changes

Happy New Year! It's time to ring in the New Year! For years, people have been using this special occasion as a motivator to drop the weight they have been struggling to lose all year round. As a registered dietitian, I encourage my clients to steer clear of New Year's resolutions in order to avoid disappointment in oneself. You may have the best of intentions when you resolve to lose weight or exercise more as the New Year begins, but somehow, life happens and you often find yourself going back to your old ways. Instead, this year believe that it's always the right time to make healthy, life changing goals for yourself.

If you are one of those people who need to "start over" with each New Year, then let's try a different approach for 2013! This New Year, instead of making a diet and weight loss resolution, try and focus on improving your health by making weekly nutrition and fitness goals. Decide what goal you will work towards for the coming week, and go for it! Log your progress and check in with yourself mid-week and at weeks end. If you want to repeat the goal the following week, go ahead. Or, pick another nutrition or fitness goal for the coming week.

Don't look at this year's resolution as a temporary change; look at it as a lifestyle change. Making too many changes at once can cause you to burn out before the end of January, and cause you to break your commitment. Therefore, instead of changing your entire way of living all at once, try making these small changes everyday. Work your way SLOWLY to a healthier you.

Try some of these nutrition and fitness goals for the coming year and you'll see how great you feel.

1. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Every day add a new fruit or veggie to your menu. Eat it raw or try it in a new recipe. Test out different cooking methods with your vegetables. Some examples are roasting, steaming, baking, and BBQing your veggies.

2. Switch to 100% whole grain. If you're still eating white bread and pasta, slowly switch to whole grains. Whole grains contain more fiber and nutrients and will keep you fuller for a longer period of time. If you are having a hard time making this change, then compromise. For example, if you're making a pasta dish, make it half with whole wheat pasta and half with regular pasta until you develop a taste for 100% whole wheat.

3. Portion control. Work your way to smaller portions! This will help control your calorie consumption. If you typically use a big dinner plate and fill the whole plate, try using a smaller size plate. You may eat more than what you need to be satisfied if you have a pile of food sitting in front of you.

4. Focus on MyPlate. Make a pact with yourself to follow the MyPlate method. When filling your plate, half should be vegetables and fruit and the other half should be divided between a serving of grains (about a ½ cup) and a serving of protein (3-4 ounces, about the size of a deck of cards).

5. Limit the sweets. No one says you need to avoid all sweets. The key is moderation. If you enjoy dessert and sweets several times a day, make a goal for yourself to limit sweets to either once per day, or even once or twice a week. Limiting your sweets may even help you lose your craving for it! Small, measurable goals are the key to success.

6. Swap out the soda and juice. These beverages are loaded with sugar and greatly contribute to your daily caloric intake. Eliminating just one can of soda a day (12 ounce can = 120 calories) can save you about 13 pounds a year! And let's be honest; most people don't only drink a can a day. So imagine how many extra pounds in one year are contributed from soda alone. Again, slowly make a goal to eliminate these empty calories by limiting your intake to one cup each day, then one cup every other day etc. Substitute water with a squeeze of lemon or lime for a refreshing beverage.

7. Begin a walking program. Commit to a daily walk, either first thing in the morning or after dinner. Start off slowly and gradually build up your speed and distance. Find a walking buddy to keep you company.

8. Schedule your workouts. Just like you schedule a doctor's appointment or a lunch date with a friend, schedule your workout on the calendar and make it a part of your routine.

9. Plan YOU time. Make sure you are taking care of your basic needs such as eating and sleeping. It is very important to practice self-care so all your basic needs are met. It will then be easier to listen to what your body needs in terms of food and exercise.

10. Practice Mindful Eating. Since you have vowed not to diet this year, practice being mindful when you are eating. Listen for your hunger and fullness signals and respond appropriately. Don't eat when you are not hungry, yet don't let yourself get to the ravenous point either. When eating, stop midway and ask yourself if you are still hungry. If not, stop and save the rest for another time.

One step at a time. That's the way to achieve your goals in the New Year. Leave the quick fix diets behind. Making small changes over the next year will free you from dieting and have you living a healthy life in no time.

Most people who try to lose weight, perceive diet as a battle. if you want to slim down the body, it is expected that you will struggle, because reducing tummy fat considered to be a long and difficult process and not just a one short deal.

There is actually one key element which is required to get a flat belly and that is to make some lifestyle adjustments. If you are not open to this idea, then reducing your belly fat will be impossible. The factors that make your tummy fat rely on your lifestyle and diet. Therefore, changes to these would help in achieving your goal.

Lifestyle changes to reduce tummy fat

· Enjoy your physical workout

Pick anything you want or enjoy doing: walk outside, ride your bicycle or dance. These are the common activities usually done outside and they are a good step to reduce your tummy fat.

Sleep well

To have at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night is one of the great things you can do for your body shaping goals. At night, your Biorhythms are off and you will end up eating more. If you are tired, you will release ghrelin that triggers the cravings for sugar and fat-building foods. So try to have at least seven to eight hours of sleep.

Sugar is your enemy

High level of blood sugar in your body creates overproduction of insulin, which can lead to the storage of body fat. Lessen calories intake by feeding yourself with vegetables, protein, whole grains, and swapping bad snacks with the good ones. For instance, if you have a craving for sugar, swap your calorie latte with a skim milk and artificial sweetener since it has zero sugar and loads of protein to satisfy your sugar craving!

Avoid stress

Both stress and anxiety can cause the overproduction of a hormone called Cortisol. Cortisol encourages weight gain in the belly area and cause insulin sensitivity.

You can start your day with a meditation which is an effective way to reduce your stress levels. So getting relaxed is a sure way to reduce tummy fat.

Short exercises

You need to work out on your abdominal muscles at least three times a week. Leg raises and crunches for 3 sets of twenty repetitions should be practiced and done. In addition, perform planks by situating your body in a push-up pose for 30 to 60 seconds on your elbows for 4 sets.

Trust me - you will feel great after these exercises knowing that you don't need to take any weight loss supplements while converting fat into muscle.

Vitamin C

As I mentioned above, when you are under severe stress, you body produces Cortisol hormone which increases the risk of fat belly. Vitamin C aids you to balance the Cortisol level thus reducing your risk to develop that bulge in your mid section. Vitamin C is also necessary for creating carnitine in the body which is a compound used to convert fat into fuel thus helping you to burn excess fat.

Conclusion

To Reduce tummy fat simply means maintaining the balance between exercise and food intake. The above suggestions will definitely help you achieve a flat belly. Once through, you will feel better emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually and of course financially.
