Laser Lipo, Does It Work?

Laser lipo, or to give it its proper title, laser lipolysis is a non surgical treatment that was designed to remove body fat from specific trouble spots such as the tummy and love handles without the need for surgery. The treatment aims to produce inch loss in the targeted area and is not a weight loss treatment. But does it work? And if so, what results can you really expect from a non surgical treatment such as laser lipo?

The answer to whether the treatment actually works or not is more complicated than it at first seems. The treatment is designed to assist the body in the release of fat from targeted fat cells. It does this by stimulating the cells with a particular frequency of laser light, to believe the energy from the fat is needed by the body. This causes changes in the cell walls that make them more permeable and allow the fat to leave the fat cell.

The biggest problem with this idea is that once the fat has left the fat cell you do need to exercise to burn it off. If you don't, then all that fat is simply re-absorbed by the fat cells over eight or so hours after treatment. Remember that the fat cells have been made permeable by the laser light and they are only too happy to take all that fat back again so you need to exercise like crazy after your treatment.

So the answer to "does it work?" is yes and no. Yes, laser light at the frequency used in laser lipo will stimulate fat cells to give up their contents. What happens to those fatty contents varies from person to person, how much exercise they do and how efficient their body is at burning fat as a fuel. One final problem which can affect whether the treatment ultimately works is how effective your body is at removing fat from the treatment area. The fat has to be circulated to the muscles that will use it as energy. If this doesn't happen then your treatment will not work. The job of transporting fat in the body is carried out by the lymphatic system. A sluggish lymphatic system can mean that the fat isn't moved out of the area quickly enough and it begins to be re-absorbed. Rebound exercise (trampoline) post treatment is the most effective way of stimulating your lymphatic system.

Laser lipo might be an effective tool in the fight against the fat but it isn't for every one. Realistically someone who responds well to the treatment can shave a couple of inches from their waistline. Your best option if you are considering laser lipo is to ask the salon to do a trial session on you. They will measure you before and immediately after treatment. You may or may not notice immediate inch loss after treatment, this doesn't matter. What you need to know is whether you still have that inch loss a week later. Get the salon to re-measure you again about a week after your trial before you commit to paying for a whole course of treatment. Also, look at other fat reduction options that may work better for you. Up and coming technologies include cryolipolysis; where the area is frozen to induce fat cell death and ultrasonic cavitation which uses ultrasound to disrupt fat cell membranes. In many instances these technologies work better than laser lipo as they do not require you to exercise to be effective.

Body contouring using non surgical techniques is a specialty of The Evolutions Clinic in Winchester. We are certified in Laser lipo, iLipo, ultrasonic cavitation, cryo lipo and cryoelectrophresis. We have extensive knowledge of how well these treatments work and our experience showed us that for some people laser lipo and iLipo (both laser lipolysis treatments) simply didn't get the results they desired. We have done a lot of research into non surgical lipolysis methods and this article is the result of our findings on laser lipolysis treatments.
