How to Tighten Sagging Skin After Weight Loss

Losing weight has great benefits not just for your physical body but also to the quality of your life. However, some people may encounter sagging skin right after they lost their weight.

But sagging skin should not stop you from losing weight. Remember, sagging skin can be prevented if you only knew how to deal with your skin while losing weight.

The most important thing to remember to avoid sagging skin is to prevent drastic weight loss. Those diet fads that promise you to lose weight quickly can be bad for your health. Those programs that promise you to lose weight in 5 to 7 days can really be tempting however, if it is extreme, It may lead to dehydration of your body and your skin. Dehydration of skin may result to lose of elasticity, which may lead to sagging skin.

Likewise, rapid weight loss may not give enough time to your skin to adjust to your new body frame. The ideal weight loss is just one or two pounds a week, this will prevent sagging skin in the future.

Then, to tighten skin, applying moisturizer is required. A good moisturizer may add 70% of moisture to the skin. This is important because as you lose weight, the moisture is needed to keep elasticity of the skin, so as the body shrinks, the skin will also follow.

Drinking multivitamins is also another way to tighten the skin. We know that cutting too much calories may prevent us from getting all the nutrients needed by our skin. Taking a multivitamins, which include vitamin A, C and E as well as other vitamins like B-complex, may do wonders for your skin.

Finding a multivitamins, which also include copper and zinc, may also boost healthy skin.

Aside from multivitamins, drinking lots of water is also important. Drinking eight glasses of water daily also maintain the moisture of your skin. It also aid in flushing out the toxin of the skin making your skin appears more healthier.

Caffeinated beverages are not included in drinking water. Beverages that contain caffeine are diuretic, thus, causing your body to lose more water from your system.
Another way to tighten skin is to use weights in your exercise. Even though you already lost a significant weight, it is still important that you lift weight. Using weights can build more muscle, which can really plump your skin. This process will make your skin appear tighter.

In the end, exercising will also guarantee that you will not regain back the weight that you already lost.

How To Stay Slim After Losing Weight

Most overweight people often make the mistake of thinking that the biggest hurdle that they will face in their quest to lose weight is how to shed off their excess body fat when the real and greatest challenge that they will face is how to keep and maintain their weight at a normal level without regaining all the fat that they had managed to shed off initially.

While losing weight may be difficult, keeping off the excess body weight is even much more tedious. The truth of the matter is that we are all born with a specific number of fat cells which remains consistent from our early 20s till the time that we die. Scientific research has also revealed that we do not really "burn" away our fat cells when we shed body weight; all that happens when we lose body weight is that we shrink our fat cells and these shrunken fat cells can easily get bloated up again if they are exposed to the "right" environment.

This is most likely the reason why so many scientific research done on losing weight and maintaining the lost body weight have revealed that you would probably have to work harder to maintain your slim stature than you worked to shed your excess body fat in the first place.

So, if you do not want to fall into the trap of regaining excess body weight after you have worked so hard to shed off body fat, you should be ready to work hard, and you can make use of the following tips to stay fit and trim:

Tip 1- Bury your old unhealthy and fattening habits

While it is true that old habits die hard, there is no way you are not going to become fat again if you do not bury your bad old habits permanently. According to a recent report in the New England Journal of Medicine you are likely to regain small amounts of weight gradually over some time if you start indulging in these three main lifestyle habits:

a- Eating more of potato chips and sugary beverages which have a high starch content.

b- Reduction of your level of activity; spending most of your time in front of your television or computer.

c- Getting little or too much sleep

You would start experiencing significant weight gain within months if you slip back into these harmful habits. So, if you do not want slip back into your former fat and unhealthy shape stop those habits right away.

Tip 2- Maintain guard over what you are putting into your mouth

Just because you are now slimmer doesn't mean that you can now throw all caution overboard when you want to eat and just east as much as you like. You have to continue to consume more of low fat proteins and complex high fiber carbohydrate foods which make you feel fuller for longer periods and which discourage the secretion of the insulin hormone.

Tip 3- Chew your food more

Recent scientific studies published by the American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition have revealed that fat and obese people tend to chew food less than slim people. This finding is most likely due to two facts; (a) when people chew slowly they tend to consume fewer calories, and ( b) proper chewing of food leads to lower secretion of the hunger hormone called ghrelin by the gut which leads to decreased appetite and subsequently lesser eating.

So chewing of your foods will help to stop eating once you are no longer hungry as opposed to stop eating of food when you are full.

Tip 4- Be weary of emotional eating

Any time that you want to eat you should always pause to ask yourself this question, "Do I want to eat because I am hungry or do I want to eat because I feel emotionally moved to eat." Never be in a hurry to eat; relax and evaluate your reason for wanting to eat before you start stuffing the food into your mouth.

Tip 5- Continue to exercise

You should make working out part of your normal daily routine, and you can engage regularly in weight lifting and other types of simple resistant training to help you to continue to burn calories even when you are resting.

Tip 6- Continue to monitor your self

If you do not want to slip back into your former fat and unhealthy figure, you have to continue to monitor yourself closely; continue to monitor your calorie intake; continue to monitor your fat intake, and continue to monitor your level of physical activity. The minute you stop to monitor yourself, you will begin to slip back into your former sloppy shape.

Tip 7- Keep on reminding yourself of the benefits of staying slim

Always keep reminding yourself of the numerous health benefits of staying in shape; when you are slim and fit, you are less prone to diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart diseases, and a host of other serious medical conditions. As long as you do not lose sight of these important benefits, you will not lose your motivation to keep on doing all that is necessary to make sure that you do not become overweight.

After Weight Loss Surgery Food Addiction Might Be Substituted by New Addictions

After a good couple of years of sensational increases of bariatric surgeries performed all over the United States, both weight loss surgeons and researchers are able now to observe the long-term behavior that characterizes weight loss patients. Some of the bariatric patients stop eating in excess, but acquire new compulsive behavior that is potentially harmful to their mental and physical health.

Weight loss surgeons believe awareness is required
In an effort to help bariatric patients understand how the mechanism of addiction works and how is it possible to substitute the object of addiction with something else, bariatric teams often organize seminars on the subject. It is likely that some of the weight loss patients need counseling regarding addictive behavior after weight loss surgery. Addictions that could develop include: alcohol drinking, smoking, compulsive shopping and gambling, etc.

Psychologists believe that unaddressed compulsive behavior may result new addictions.
Called by some psychologists addiction transfer, the phenomenon covers a switch from one substance or compulsive behavior to a new one. After bariatric surgery patients become aware of the importance and the role of a balanced and healthy diet. They also acquire new eating habits and learn to control the nutritional aspects of their lives. While this is indeed a great achievement, weight loss patients might fool themselves into having been cured of underlying emotional issues that stood at the base of food addiction. Relaxed and relieved, they might just develop new addictions, without even noticing what actually happened.

Filling out inner void cannot be done by bariatric surgery
It is not easy to dig deep and identify emotional blockages and uncomfortable feelings that trigger compulsive behavior. All that a great majority of people may observe is that substance-abuse (food, alcohol, smoking, drugs, etc.) induces temporary relief and pleasure. Bariatric surgery regulates eating patterns and behavior, but it will not cure emotional issues. That is for the patient to work on and handle. Sometimes counseling is needed to develop awareness of the compulsive, self-destructive mental and behavioral patterns.

Bariatric patients and alcohol abuse
In the opinion of bariatric specialists alcohol abuse is a serious threat to anyone, but bariatric patients are at a higher risk. Some weight loss surgery procedures change the metabolism of alcohol in the body and patients end up getting drunk having only been drinking a small quantity of alcohol. Further research is needed to confirm the link between bariatric surgery and addiction transfer.

Serving as medical director at L.A. Bariatrics Dr. Jeremy Korman and his team perform minimally invasive bariatric procedures. These procedures help bariatric patients fight obesity.

How to Reduce Tummy Fat After Having a Baby

This question has been asked many times over: How can you reduce tummy fat without starving yourself or working out non-stop? Can you shrink your stomach without getting skinny all over?

For moms, past experience and research would have you believe that countless sit-ups and abdominal crunches would get rid of the baby fat that's built up over the last nine months in your stomach area. Truth is, that's not true at all! You can't just get rid of the baby fat in your abdominal area without reducing your overall body fat percentage. Good news is that you can get rid of the baby fat and make your tummy look flatter with the right foods and exercise.

Foods that Reduce Tummy Fat

There are some foods that emphasize tummy fat and others that reduce the appearance of it. So not only does it matter how MUCH you eat but the TYPES of food you eat play a significant role in getting rid of the baby fat around your waistline.

Some foods and chemicals put stress on our delicate bodies. Popular examples are caffeine and nicotine. These substances act as stimulants by making our heart rates faster and increasing our blood pressure. When this happens, our bodies interpret it as a sign of danger and automatically go into preservation mode by hanging onto extra calories and storing them as tummy fat.

This is done through cortisol, a hormone that our bodies produce when stressed. Cortisol is the culprit behind the storing of fat, specifically around the waist area. This type of fat can be harmful and has been linked to cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Another issue that can make things worse is insulin production. Our bodies produce insulin to help the body use or store blood glucose it gets from food. Eating sweet foods can cause this to happen even though our blood glucose levels are normal. That's why you'll hear people complain of hunger even after eating artificially sweetened foods. Our blood glucose levels are lowered by the insulin leading us to feel like we're starving! In turn, we eat more and begin accumulating the dreaded tummy fat.

To counteract this and get rid of the baby fat you already have, you need to eat foods that don't put stress on your body or trigger extra insulin production. Foods that are slow to digest can help: whole grain breads and pastas, lean meat, tofu, nuts, high fiber fruits and vegetables, olive oil and avocados.

Give up coffee. If you can't, try green tea instead. Tea has a smaller amount of caffeine but still contains phytonutrients that provide a host of other health benefits, including a faster metabolism!

Exercises that Reduce Tummy Fat

Diet is not the only thing to follow when trying to get rid of the baby fat. Exercise is just as important. Although you can't just hone in on your abdominal fat specifically, you can do cardio and strength exercise to reduce your overall body fat percentage. Then once the belly fat is gone, you can do abdominal exercises that target toning up the area.

Good thing is that you can do any kind of cardio exercises. Brisk walking, swimming, jogging, gardening, dancing- all these activities are cardio! Find something you enjoy and make a habit to do it 3-5 times a week. Your health will get better and you'll start to lose weight, including the unsightly weight around your middle.

Building strength helps with burning fat too. Lean muscle mass burns more calories leaving less fat to store. Create a strength training routine that you can do at least 3 times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. Make sure you target different groups of muscles on different days. Monday you'll target arms and shoulders. Wednesday would be abs and core. Friday you'll work on exercising your legs.

Rest in between your exercise regimen and always stay hydrated! If you don't take in enough fluids, your body will not burn fat as efficiently. Aim for an intake of 64 ounces of water per day, an equivalent of 8 glasses. Try these tips and pretty soon, you'll be jumping for joy that you were able to get rid of the baby fat fast!

How to Lose Weight After Having a Baby

It's never easy to lose weight, and new mothers in particular may find that they struggle with finding time and energy to realize their weight loss goals. Fortunately, with the right diet and exercise program, new moms can find a great way to lose the weight and bond with their child.

Include Your Newborn in Your Exercises

There are a few ways new moms can help speed up weight loss. Instead of sticking your newborn with a babysitter or in day care while you go to the gym, why not find a park to walk or jog in with your newborn? Many manufacturers make durable strollers built just for those moms who like to go for a jog with their newborn. This gives both you and your child a chance to get some fresh air, and is a great way to sneak in a workout without losing precious time with your child.

There are also other ways to build up muscles and burn some calories by using your child as a free weight. You can modify squats, lunges, biceps curls and several other exercises to help you lose weight, build muscle tone and bond with your child, as you use their weight as your free weight. There are plenty of parenting sites on the internet they can demonstrate using your child as weight. But if you are not comfortable with that, you can use other household items, like full gallon jugs as weights.

Local Organizations

Many local recreational organizations offer Mommy and Me classes, where new moms can join a group of other new mothers and work out with their children. From yoga to swimming, these organizations will have a class that works for you and can help you get in shape too.

New Moms Working Together

Check out your neighborhood for other new moms with whom you can exercise. First, it will help you maintain your weight loss goals, by having support in a fellow mother, but you can also start exercise dates, where you, your child and your friends can exercise and socialize. Organize play dates with other moms so you can get out and play with your newborn.

It is always best to start with a healthy, balanced diet and exercise program to lose weight, but breastfeeding mothers may find that their weight loss is slow at first, because of the needed calories for milk production. However, this does not mean a breastfeeding mother should not try to lose weight. Always speak to your doctor before beginning any new diet and exercise program, particularly if you are going to add a natural weight loss supplement to your diet. For breastfeeding mothers, discuss the effects a natural weight loss supplement may have not only on your body but on your child's. Many drugs will appear in breast milk, so if you are considering adding a natural weight loss supplement to your weight loss diet and you are breastfeeding, it is best to choose a natural supplement and to speak with your doctor first, to ensure that the supplement is indeed healthy for you and baby.

What to Expect - Weight Loss After Gastric Sleeve Procedure

Sleeve gastrectomy or as it is commonly mentioned, gastric sleeve surgery, is a bariatric surgery procedure, which introduces the patient to a substantially changed life. The liquid diet, which a patient needs to keep for the first few days after surgery requires an immediate change in nutrition what the gastric sleeve patient experiences right after recovering from anesthesia. Weight loss begins with the liquid diet, virtually with the first post-operative day. It continues at a dramatic pace as liquid diet is followed by a transitional soft food diet needed to help the stomach accommodate. To secure a positive outcome of the operation, complication-free recovery, and an ideal rate of weight loss, surgeons recommend that the process of eating solid food again to be smooth and gradual.

What to keep to during the first post-operative months

Smaller amounts of food at one meal. During gastric sleeve procedure the stomach of the patient is reduced to the size of a pouch. Patients feel full much earlier than they are used to. Never eat more than suggested by the bariatric surgeon and dietitian, and never drink water together with your meal. Post-operative diet leads to noticeable weight loss.
Healthy lifestyle. No bariatric procedure is able to produce long-term, sustained weight loss results if it is not helped by healthy lifestyle changes. Your weight loss surgeon will give you a detailed explanation of why these changes are needed and about the way they lead to weight loss. Look up a support group in your area and join in to benefit from the emotional and motivational support that only people who have already been through what you are going through can give.
Exercise. Though you probably know it theoretically that physical activity is needed to give the body strength and tone, it is time for you to implement this knowledge into everyday life. If you exercise regularly you will be able to boost your immune system, increasing this way your body's ability to resist and fight disease! Don't forget that regular physical activity burns calories and fat!

Long-term result is matter of commitment and determination

Gastric sleeve surgery will not change the person you are, but it will change the variety of options you have in life. You need to find the willpower needed to face every challenge raised on your weight loss journey. Your body and your mind will thank you for the new, better and healthier quality of life!

Foods That Reduce Belly Fat After Having a Baby

You've had your little bundle of joy, your uterus has contracted down to its normal size again, but still you are left with, yikes, the dreaded "baby belly". What can you do? Well, start with taking a look at your daily diet. Are you eating the right foods? In this article, we will talk about the types of foods that reduce belly fat after having a baby and get you going on the right track to trimming that tummy up again!

When considering the types of foods that reduce belly fat, think about nutritious foods that will help to keep you feeling full for longer amounts of time. Foods that contain lean protein are a great option as protein promotes satiety (the state of feeling full), and an added bonus is that protein also gives your body energy at the same time. Energy is never a bad thing when you have a baby to take care of! Some examples of foods that contain lean protein are wild-caught salmon (the farmed salmon contains more contaminants), chicken, eggs, nuts, sunflower or pumpkin seeds and legumes (such as beans, peas and lentils).

After having a baby, high fiber foods are a great choice, not only because they are one of those foods that reduces belly fat, but they will also help to keep you regular. It is a very common thing for women to get constipated during and following pregnancy. High fiber foods are not only going to help keep you regular, but will also help to keep you feeling full longer. Some examples of high fiber foods include several types of whole grain cereals and breads, whole wheat pasta, beans and many fruits and vegetables (such as raspberries, pears, artichokes, broccoli, etc.). Note: When choosing whole grain products, make sure that the first ingredient on the label is one of the following: whole wheat, whole oats, whole wheat bulgur, whole rye, whole grain barley, whole grain corn or brown or wild rice. Just because the item is brown in color does not mean that it is whole grain, so it's always best to check the ingredient list.

Would you believe that foods that contain fats are actually beneficial for reducing your belly fat, or overall body fat for that matter? Well, you've heard of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, right? These are the good fats. These "good" fats will actually help to keep you feeling full longer while promoting good heart health. Keeping in moderation, foods containing these fats will help you to lose weight/fat, but try to avoid trans and saturated fats as these are the "bad" fats that are not healthy for you. Some foods containing the "good" fats are avocados, olive oil, black or green olives, peanut butter, fish, seeds and nuts (the best options are walnuts, pistachios and almonds). Note: Research shows that people who eat nuts regularly are generally thinner.

As discussed in this article, the foods that reduce belly fat after having a baby contain lean protein, are high in fiber and contain healthy fats. Combine your healthy diet with proper food portions (and only eating until you are just full, not stuffed) and exercise and you will see a new slim and trim you!

There is another trick that many women are finding rapid success with for slimming down their tummy after having a baby. I have done much research on this and found 3 of the best products that will have your waistline looking fabulous in no time. Check these out!

Gastric Bypass Before and After Pictures Throughout the Weight Loss

Patients often have more than just one or two gastric bypass before and after pictures. Instead, they take the photos at set intervals to make sure that they are documenting each and every stage of their changes. Some use videos to talk about their transformation and to encourage others to go through the same process to shed the pounds and get back to a healthier lifestyle.

Pre-Operation Photos

Not all gastric bypass before and after pictures are staged. Many people find pictures of themselves taken well before they met with the surgeon. Some of these are even the catalyst that sent the patient to the doctor's office in the first place. They can depict family vacations, time spent over the holidays or even just a quiet evening at home with the family. Out of all of the photos taken, a patient usually chooses one that shows his or her highest weight. Some people choose to post these photos once they achieve the results they had hoped for and some physicians even use them to show to other patients considering the operation.

Other times, a patient wants the photos to be similar at every stage of the game. In all of the gastric bypass before and after photos, the individual will be wearing the same type of clothes. Men often wear workout shorts and women may want to have their photos done in a sports bra and shorts. If you are planning to go through the procedure anytime soon, you can choose how you would like to be represented in the photos.

Post-Operation Photos

Patients are often thrilled to take the second half of their gastric bypass before and after pictures. They love being able to track the changes and see exactly how their bodies are progressing. For some, this takes place rather quickly and others notice that it takes a little bit longer to get things moving. Either way, it is a good idea to set up a certain time interval to get out the camera. Some people choose to take photos every week while others try for every two weeks or even every other month. It depends on what you are looking to get out of the photos.

Don't let anxiety get the best of you. Don't miss out on this opportunity to document the entire process. You will love to look back and see the transformation that you experienced and if you feel comfortable enough, you can choose to share them with other patients considering a similar type of operation. So make sure to smile at each one of those gastric bypass before and after photos as you see your body start to shed the pounds.

Can you ever really get your body back after pregnancy?

I love photos of new mothers after having their first baby because it always captures that moment in their life where they will never be the same, and they don't realize it yet. It's a certain look that I can't really pinpoint but it's something innocent and soft but strong and empowered, and it signifies the day their life will change forever.

Some people lose weight quickly after having a baby but in my case, even having lost the number of pounds I had gained, my body was never the same. After having my son, I had this little flabby tummy that just wouldn't tighten up, although I got away pretty lucky since I did yoga throughout my pregnancies, after 12 years of having an extra layer, I decided to get my body back.

The first thing I tried was to join a gym and doing some fitness classes, but was just plain boring and I couldn't stop watching the clock. It was social in a way, but I didn't get results.

Then I got back into yoga, and even organized a yoga classes in the park with some friends, but nothing seemed to change.

Finally, when I was just about to accept my body as unchangeable, a friend of mine introduced me to an extreme, 90 day home fitness program called P90X.

For me, the schedule and ease of exercising is what finally got me results. But everyone is different. I need the discipline and I couldn't afford a personal trainer.

Whatever method you use to transform your body will work if you commit and focus, but the key is to get your hands on something that will keep you on track and motivated while still having fun.

My husband and I have been doing our home program for 30 days now and both of us notice our muscle tone has improved and old muscles are starting to come back. I am actually surprised my husband like the program. He usually prefers things like mountain biking, skiing, or doing intense cycle workouts at the gym.

The thing I love the most about the program we chose is the fact that it's fun. There are 12 different DVD workouts and a schedule to follow. The workouts range from intense cardio, to yoga, to a fun martial arty thing called Kempo, to arm and shoulders, legs and back, and a few others including the one I love/hate the most... the extreme abs one.

I also noticed that my energy and clarity levels are much higher and that I find I get more done in a day, not less. That extra hour of sweat and heart pumping, actually gives me more time in my day! get sweating and watch your energy soar.

If you are wanting to get your body back, and are ready to commit to improving yourself, I highly recommend just getting started and doing whatever you choose regularly.

More and more, especially as I age, I realize how important it is to stay strong and maintain flexibility. It's just the best anti aging remedy ever. I see my mom having health issues now with her feet, joints, and weight, and think the only way to prevent some of those issues is to take good care of my body now.

Like they say 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure' (I think that's how it goes... ).

So take care of your most valuable asset, your health, and get your body back into the best shape of your life as soon as possible. You are worth it!

Here's to being the very best in every way...
