Secrets Of The Sauce: My Number One Weight Maintenance Secret

I love to eat. I am not alone in that. I am also interested in being very fit.

People automatically think that you aren't going to be able to serve both masters. Meaning that if you aren't prepared to eat endless bland tasteless stems, seeds, and dry meats, you aren't going to look good. Actually, that isn't anywhere close to true.

The other canard is if you want to eat healthy with some taste to your food you must have both tons of time and an advanced degree in culinary arts. The inference being that if you do something not exactly right, you'll blow up your efforts to eat correctly.

What you have to realize first is these conventional myths need not be praxis for you in your efforts to either lose weight and keep it off. From your viewpoint, you want to make sure you are getting yourself in a position to eat right 80% of the time at the beginning. We're forsaking perfection in favor of reality, and embracing consistency with enjoyment. A big part of that is never eating a meal I make, if I am not in love with how it tastes.

The Flavor Focus Should Be After The Meal Is Prepared, Rather Than During

My approach to eat both healthy and tasty has two parts. First, you want to be judicious with time. So you need some consistency in how your prepare which is fast, flavorful, and healthy. Second, you need to have the perfect flavors you like when the food actually meets your mouth.

What I do is simple. I bake, broil or steam and I use olive oil or butter to baste and flavor it. I make sure seasoning salts or sauces are not included in the cooking process. The reason for this rule is cooking in this way tends to over saturate the food. We inevitably put too much on as we shake and smother our food during the cooking process.

Instead try creating dipping sauces out of lower sugar and sodium choices. Then take your steamed or baked veggies and meats and create the taste you want with each bite. The major difference is you want to dip, not smother by pouring the sauce all over the cooked food. I do this with salad too.

I have found that I end up eating eat less sauce. I also find that the act of cutting up the food, forking it, and then dipping it slows down my eating by as much as 5 to 10 minutes. Eating slower is something that helps us lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. More on that here. One other advantage of dipping healthily prepared foods in our favorite sauce concoction is: the lower serving intake makes the sodium or sugar level of the sauce less of a worry. A good sauce, even one we create, is bound to have both sodium and sugar included.
